Orthodontics - Dr Martyn Parry

Orthodontics involves simple to complex treatments, both fixed and removal types of treatment. Removable orthodontics utilizes appliance therapy. Invisalign aligners otherwise known as “clear braces”are classed as a removable type of therapy.

Treatment of children and adults is carried in this clinic. Adult tooth movements can take longer due to denser and less vascular bone. This may add another 6 months to treatment time but generally this does not deter an individual from embarking on a course of orthodontics.

Follow on orthodontic treatment can involve implant and crown or veneer procedures that are performed in house, providing an opportunity for direct control of each set of procedures.

Post orthodontic movement does require longer term retention appliance wear, either fixed or removable because of the natural relapse tendency of teeth to their original position. This relapse is variable but more pronounced in complex cases. Compliance is therefore an important part of orthodontics from a patient viewpoint.

Sometimes only one arch is addressed as in treatment for upper anterior aesthetics; or a partial alignment of teeth may suit which is dependent on the length of treatment, patient preference and limits of tooth movement and jaw relations

For many, orthodontics is an ideal treatment mode, with no or minimal restorations, providing functional and aesthetic results that are required by the patient and satisfying for the dentist to have performed.

Dentistry involves maintenance and improvement of the oral condition that directly affects general health by reducing harmful bacterial distribution in the bloodstream.
